It was a crazy ride.
After Sunday morning at GraceCathedral (my first formal encounter with the Episcopal Church), I
had another day of sightseeing in San Francisco, this time mostly on
foot. I then took an overnight flight to Montréal for the WSCF
meetings.
The meetings were inspiring and tiring. I was the youngest in the
'senior' meeting, and we were kept busy for almost ten hours a day,
reflecting on historical and ecumenical matters and on the future of
the Student Christian Movement. The student delegates had even more
work to do. I gathered a small group of sightseers for one of our
brief blocks of free time, and we went to the old city, and decided
not to go into the old basilica on principle, as there was a ticket
booth blocking the entrance. (I don't mind making donations to
churches as a tourist, but a ticket booth seems vulgar to me.)
Saturday's Montréal-New York train ride was a perfect way to wind down
after a busy week. Over the weekend I stayed with an Australian priest
on Long Island and on Sunday afternoon we went sailing with other
online friends and a couple of children from the parish. On Monday I
went to Manhattan for a bit of sightseeing between thunderstorms,
before heading to the airport for 20 hours of flight.
It was an exciting two weeks, but now I have to get back to the rest
of my life, and face that intimidating to-do list. At least my Greek
teacher has kindly decided not to give me three weeks' worth of tests
in one hit.
